Jeff Judge, Head Coach & Offensive Coordinator

Coach Jeff Judge returns for his tenth season as the Anderson University head football coach.  Judge became the 11th football coach in school history in 2003. Before coming to AU, he was the Offensive Coordinator (2001-02) and Defensive Coordinator (2000) at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.  Judge has also been a Defensive Coordinator at Simpson College (1994-2000) and the Offensive and Recruiting Coordinator at Morehead State University (1990-94). He was also an assistant to the Athletic Director at Simpson. 

He was a graduate assistant with the Purdue football team (1987-89) and a student assistant at Iowa State (1982-87).

Judge earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Physical Education from Iowa State in 1987 with Secondary Teaching Endorsement and Coaching Endorsement.  He added his Master's of Science degree in Sports Administration from Purdue in 1989.   Judge is a native of Gilbert, Iowa, where he graduated from high school.

Judge and his wife Laurie reside in Yorktown and have two children (Katie and Thomas).

Joe Williams, Special Teams Coordinator & Offensive Line

Joe is in his 17th season as a member of the AU coaching staff and will serve as an Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator in 2009. He will also work with the offensive line.  A former Raven football player (1974-78), Williams graduated from Ball State University with a BS in Physical Education and later added a MS in Athletic Administration.  Williams first coached at AU from 1987-98, followed by a year at highland High School (1999). From 2000-05, he served as an offensive line coach for the University of Indianapolis and also worked with the Greyhound punters and kickers.

Williams, who is originally from Roanoke, Va., currently resides in Noblesville w/ his wife Julie and have four children: Josh, Katelyn, John and Cory.

David Gater, Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Backs

David Gater joined the Raven football coaching staff and will become the Defensive Coordinator.   Coach Gater just finished up serving five years as the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach @ Trine University.   Coach Gater will bring the experience he gained while being a four-year letter winner at Ball State University as a defensive back. Gater graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in general studies and a minor in criminal justice and physical education.  He graduated from East Noble High School, where he played on the football team for four years. 

Gater and his wife Jessie, are moving to the Anderson area and have two children Payton  & Amya .  

Marc Etchison, Running Backs

Marc is in his tenth season with the AU coaching staff and will work with the Running Backs. Etchison was an assistant coach on the Raven staff from 2000-03 and was also an assistant coach at Anderson High School (2004-05) before returning to AU. He works in the ITS department at Anderson University.  Etchison was a four-year letter winner on the offensive line and co-captain of the 1992 team at AU. He earned his bachelor's degree from AU in 1993.

Etchison and his wife Beth, a former AU athlete, reside in Anderson and have two sons Evan and Connor.

Matt DeVault, Outside Linebackers

Matt will be in his fifth season with the Anderson University coaching staff and will work with the defensive backs.  

DeVault has previously been at Alexandria High School, where he coached for 13 years, including six as the head coach from 2001-06. He also served as an Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator during his tenure at Alexandria.  He is a graduate of Hamilton Heights High School and Manchester College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics. He added his master's degree in Secondary Education at AU in 1999. 

DeVault played tight end and defensive end at Hamilton Heights and was a receiver and slot on the football team at Manchester College from 1989-92.

DeVault and his wife Nelly resides in Alexandria and have three children: Benjamin, Elizabeth, & Rebekah.
